live a life you love

The secret to living your dream is to do the things in life that make you happy now and then work really hard to do them extremely well.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

You've heard it a million times. Maybe you love this question because you know exactly what you want to do, or maybe you find it a little intimidating because you don't know the answer yet.

We're here to say "that's awesome either way". Your career may not even exist yet!

To find out how to live a life you love, we jammed with Juliana and Brie (two ivivva head office superstars) and found out they had very different paths. Juliana never planned for her dream job but it popped up as she was pursuing her passion - dance. Brie always knew she wanted to be a designer and worked really hard to plan her path to success. The one common thing between each story is that both girls did what they loved everyday and opportunities followed.

meet Juliana

e-commerce coordinator

what does Juliana do at ivivva?

Lots of things that she has learned to pick up. One of her main roles is to help map out what product ivivva will have each season based on feedback from guests (you!), stores and the website. This means things like how many tanks ivivva will have for summer, and in what colours or styles. Her favourite day-to-day work is organizing what the website shopping pages look like. It's sort of like colour and style-coordinating your closet but on a giant scale.

what did she want to be when she grew up?

A ballerina. Juliana toured the world dancing on cruise ships and has worked with several dance companies. After her travels, she started working at a lululemon store to try something new and meet friends. She still wanted to keep dancing and scored a contract with a Nutcracker ballet production and tried out for So You Think You Can Dance. Juliana continued to move up in lululemon because she was living out her passion everyday and open to opportunities.

how did she land her dream job?

Juliana never planned on it, but her dream job found her. After job-shadowing a lululemon friend at head office, Juliana realized she loved the process of planning each season and mapping out how clothes could be visually displayed. An e-commerce (online shopping) role came up at ivivva and she instantly connected with the brand that works to empower girls through dance and sports. Juliana had never been in this kind of position before and she learned the essential skills on the fly. To this day she continues to thrive in her role and shape it as she digs deeper into her strengths.

meet Brie

ivivva assistant designer

live a life you love, #goalbigger with Brie and the ivivva team

what does Brie do at ivivva?

Brie works with her team to design all the ivivva clothes. Right now she's working on winter 2014 - that's right - next winter. Her favourite part of her job sketching and colouring in the designs (called croquis, check out her skate design below).

what did she want to be when she grew up?

A designer - ever since she was eight. As soon as she made her first Halloween costume, Brie knew fashion design was her path. In grade ten, she began mapping out her career to be a designer by taking more fine arts classes and later, went to design school.

"I love that everyday I work to inspire girls to be active and healthy. It's so much a part of who I am and it means a lot to me."

how did she land her dream job at ivivva?

Brie gave up her own fashion company after two years to join the ivivva team because her ivivva role combined the two things she loved most in life - design and sport. Volleyball is Brie's alter-passion. Ever since making the school team in grade eight, she's been lighting up the court and beach every year, year-round. Through sport, Brie discovered her most important values were dedication, teamwork and leading a healthy life. That's how she found the perfect role today as an ivivva designer.

what can you do now?

So whether you know or not what you want to be when you grow up, don't worry about it. Here are five easy steps for long-term goal-setting:

  • Ask yourself, what do you love to do most today?
  • Write down everything you can think of on a piece of paper - at least 30.
  • Circle your top five.
  • Write some details about why you love them. Recognize the feelings you have about the activity and who you enjoy to be around.
  • Now put your passion into action! Use our short-term goal-setting tips to help you figure out the small steps to achieve your biggest dreams.

Have fun #goalbigger!

Me and my sister want to become ivivva models, but we wanna know there is any requirements to become a model. Is there? And my Ava wants to know if it costs and if you earn anything.

Comment by Sophie and Ava — August 28, 2014 @ 8:37 pm

I just meant Ava not my Ava I was gonna say my sister but I erased it lol

Comment by Sophie and Ava — August 28, 2014 @ 8:40 pm

Hi Sophie and Ava,
That is super exciting you want to get more involved with ivivva. The best thing to do is visit your local store and get chatting with educators in the store to see how you can both get more involved.

Hey. I love ivivva and lululemon! I want to be a model for them but the closest store is 2 hours away. So I would just like to know does it cost money to be one and do you get payed anything?

Comment by Robyn — October 20, 2014 @ 4:02 pm

Hi Robyn,

Most of our models are girls we meet from our local community who are living a healthy, sweaty life style. We could pass along your information to your closest store if getting there in person is not an option. Send us an email at with your contact information and we will set this up.

I want to be an Ivivva model very badly, but am afraid I am a bit too big. I am 13 and wear a 14 or maybe even a 12. I have the Speed shorts in 14, but have never tried the tops or anything.

Hi Miley,
We are so excited for your eagerness to become a role model for other ivivva girls. All of the girls featured on our site are athletes within their communities. The best place to start is to pop into a store and have a chat with them. For a list of ivivva stores check out: Share what you’re up to within your community and how you love to stay active and the educators in the store will be able to point you in the right direction. I hope that helps, Miley!
